Peter Sagan celebrates his first career Tour de France win with a Balotelli impression
You know it's been a controversial free start to the Tour when the biggest debating point isn't the route the organizers have chosen or a doping scandal, but rather the celebrations of Peter Sagan in two of the four race stages thus far. First up he crossed the line doing what appeared to be his best Mario Balotelli impersonation (see above) and followed it up two days later by mimicking Forest Gump running, though it looked more like Lloyd from that Dumb and Dumber scene below.
Sagan claims his celebration was Forest Gump inspired, but I like to think it was Dumb and Dumber
The whole thing reared the debate as to whether the young Slovak was overstepping his mark and 'showing up' his opponents who while he was having fun were coming in behind, on the rivet and suffering like dogs. Such people who think this isn't right are once again guilty of taking their sport far too seriously while forgetting that this is the entertainment business and Sagan is providing plenty of that.
Would we really prefer to have our athletes coated in grey, coming over the line with little more than the hit of a smile curling up at the sides of their mouths? I mean, you've just won a stage in the Tour de France something you have dedicated your whole life towards, but how dare you have fun.
One fellow pro took to his Twitter account to give his thoughts on the running man celebration. "Great win by Sagan again he, is class!but can't say I enjoy his victory salutes in the face of his competitors!". If other cyclists truly don't like it then go out and beat him.
I don't know about you, but I can't wait until he wins again to see what he has in store for us. I just hope any minor criticism and interjection by the 'fun police' won't result in him curbing his enthusiasm for cycling.
